10 Questions to get to know Hope Glynn

For the past twenty years, Hope Glynn has been one of the most well known hunter trainers and riders in the United States, and just so happens to be a lover of Ruespari belts. Hope is a trainer at Sonoma Valley Stables in Petaluma, CA and has trained many riders to excel to championships in shows such as Upperville, Capital Challenge, Coachella, Devon, and the California Circuit. Just a few of her recent riding accomplishments include coming in second in the $500,000 HTS Hunter Prix finals in Saugerties, NY, twice! She won the USHJA International Derbies on nine different horses within the past few years. In 2017 she won the $50,000 USHJA International Derby at Desert Circuit Wk 8.

Hope is also a licensed R Judge, and most importantly a mother to her daughter Avery who she also shares a love for horses with.

I was lucky enough to interview Hope and ask her a few questions about her life and riding.

When did you begin riding?

I got my first pony at age 5 and it was kept in my backyard in Roseville, CA. My parents bought "Sugar and Spice" from an ad out of the paper. When we first got her my parents thought she was just very fat, but little did they know she was really pregnant! Two months later Sugar and Spice had a foal and we then had two ponies.

What’s your favorite song right now on the radio?

Whatever it Takes by: Imagine Dragons. It's one of my go to songs right now, a very motivational song.

If you weren’t a rider what else would you do as a job?

I would want to be a newscaster, or a spin instructor.

What’s your favorite show to binge watch on Netflix?

I'm not much of a televison person, but I did watch Stranger Things with my daughter Avery. I'm not a big fan of the Demagorgons though, they're scary!

What’s your pre -show routine?

I am the complete opposite of superstitious. I tell people I want to buy a black cat just to prove to everyone I don't believe in it. I'm not very ritualistic when it comes to horse shows either. One thing I do before every show is to make sure I drink plenty of water to make sure I don't get dehydrated and eat a nutritious meal full of protein. I know being an athelete takes a lot of work, and fueling your body right with the right fuel is critical for your performance.

Whats your favorite thing to do when your not riding?

Exercise!I love to train for Triathlons while I'm not riding or around the barn. I have completed 10 trialthons including 2 olympics, and I am currently training for a half triathlon. I love pushing myself to do new things and hard things like running but I only love it when it’s done.
